The City of South Miami is excited to begin planning efforts for Ludlam Glades Park. This park will be an improvement to the neighborhood by enhancing recreational opportunities and quality of life in South Miami.
Once complete, this park will be many things to many people and will need to be compatible with the surrounding neighborhood. A preliminary concept plan was developed based on early input. Following completion of that, a community input survey was conducted, and a virtual public meeting was held on August 6th. Based on the community survey and virtual meeting input, the concept plan was further refined.
The revised concept plan is shown here, and a comparison of both is shown further below.
The Parks & Recreation Department wants to be sure Ludlam Glades Park is enjoyable for both residents and visitors of the surrounding neighborhood.
Following completion of the community input survey and virtual public meeting, changes were made to the concept plan. These changes included the addition of a bike parking station, a water fountain, removal of the large pavilion adjacent to the playground, enlargement of the observation dock to include space for fishing activities, removal of one small shelter and location adjustments to the remaining two. Additional elements such as native landscaping and educational signage will be incorporated as the park develops. For now, the City has decided to retain the basketball half-court due to the number of children who reside in the neighborhood and overall public demand for this amenity.
Some features will not be constructed in the park. These include (but not limited to) a dog park, restroom facilities, pool or splash pad, recreation facility, and nighttime lighting.
South Miami currently offers 12 parks and 3 facilities for residents and visitors to enjoy.
In addition to managing parks, the department offers a range of programs and activities.
